Our story

Hi, I’m Angela and this is my husband Allen.  We both grew up in Small-Town Canada, and have been married since 1993.  We lived in the Chicago area for six years, and currently live in Miami, Florida. What a change this is for us!

The story of how our life has gone to the dogs begins with Myah.  She was the first dog to join our family - a Greyhound-Husky mix.  She was bred to be a sled dog, and through several sets of unfortunate circumstances, was on her third home when we found her.  The owners were about to turn her over to the Humane Society and we decided that she would be just the perfect dog for us.

She was only with us a few short months, when she died tragically.  We loved her so much, and decided that we wanted another of this ‘breed’. We contacted Allen’s Uncle, who races sled-dogs in Northern BC, and asked him how we could find another ‘sled-dog’.  We now know that they are usually called Alaskan Huskies, and they are all very different, which we found out the hard way!

Myah had been trained by someone who trained seeing-eye-dogs, and she had the most helpful trick – she could go outside and do her ‘duty’, off-leash, in our unfenced yard, and then come back inside.  That may not sound like much, but in the Forty-below winter days in Winnipeg – it was really something!

Well, after a little searching, we found a kennel – and there we found Wooner.  It didn’t take long after Wooner arrived for us to learn that Myah had perhaps been the exception to the rule!We decided very early that we needed some serious help after she bolted out the door and made her way across a much-too-busy street.

She taught us everything we need to know about Northern breeds and their independence and intelligence. There is simply no other breed with their personality – or is there?

When we decided that we wanted a second dog, we began researching breeds.  Quite by accident, we learned about the Klee Kai – meant to be a miniature version of our Wooner!  What an exciting day that was.  We contacted Carroll Parkison immediately, and after a couple of phone calls, and some careful consideration, we decided that we had to have one of her dogs.

The rest – as they say – is history!
Our home truly will never be complete without at least one of these tiny little sled dogs!
